Porcelain Veneers and Lumineers

Porcelain Veneers and Lumineers are both excellent ways to give you the best smile ever. Veneers are thin shells intended to bond to your teeth for dental cosmetic purposes. Porcelain is one of the materials that veneers are made of.

Lumineers are a brand of veneers. They are much thinner (about 0.2 mm) than porcelain veneers. The practice of Justin Devack DMD PA in Tamarac, FL offers these dental solutions to patients who have cosmetic issues with their teeth.

The Procedure

Although both Porcelain Veneers and Lumineers practically have the same purposes for their use as a cosmetic dental treatment, Porcelain Veneers are more customized, while Lumineers are non-invasive.

  • For Porcelain Veneers, three consultations are required. The first consultation is the examination of your teeth to see how many teeth need the cosmetic treatment.
  • Once determined, your dentist could Xray of your teeth, and make impressions. These steps are optional and are done only as found necessary by your dentist.
  • During the 2nd consultation, your dentist will shave off about a half millimeter of tooth enamel. If needed, your dentist may apply local anesthetics prior to shaving.
  • An impression will be made of your mouth or teeth. This will be sent to a dental laboratory so that your veneer can be constructed based on the impression.
  • The veneer is finished within 1 to 2 weeks, and then delivered to your dentist.
  • During your 3rd consultation, your dentist will check the veneer against your teeth for color and fit. Additional adjustments may be made, such as trimming the veneer or fine-tuning its shade.
  • Cleaning, polishing, and etching of your teeth is next. A special cement is placed on the veneer and the veneer is bonded to your tooth.
  • A special light is used on the veneer to quickly harden the bond. Any excess material on the veneer is removed, and your veneer fit is checked once more to complete the process. You may be asked to come back for a follow-up consultation so your dentist can assess your veneer.
  • For Lumineers, the process takes two consultations. The first is when your teeth are examined and a mold or impression is made. Fit and color are determined at this time.
  • Once the impression comes back from the lab, you come for your second visit and your Lumineers are applied without any enamel scraping or the need for anesthesia.

Porcelain veneers and Lumineers can improve the appearance of your teeth, including treating crooked teeth, adjusting tooth length and width, fixing chipped teeth, and replacing stained teeth with pearly whites.
